A Dying Christmas Guest

This dream had a really odd theme: it was about spending Christmas with a woman who was terminally ill.

We were staying at Ai Seng's house for Christmas. There were a lot of people there, as Zen and Shaolin were both staying there (I assume with their respective partners) in addition to me and Yu Lee, and we also had a terminally ill woman and her three children staying with us too.

The dying woman was relatively young, probably in her thirties. She was slim and had short blonde hair, and although her face had been aged somewhat by her illness, she was still attractive. She had twins who must have been 1 - 2 years old, and a little girl who was a couple of years older.

I don't remember many events from the dream (and to be honest it felt like we spent most of the dream sitting around and not doing much), but it was definitely Christmas day, and having the dying woman with us removed the feeling of Christmas from the atmosphere.

There were a lot of people staying at the house, and fitting everyone in was obviously a problem. Me and Yu Lee were staying in a room that definitely doesn't exist at Ai Seng's house in real life. I'm not sure what the room was normally used for as it had all of the furniture you would expect in a bedroom, but it was attached to the kitchen. I remember saying at one point that it was convenient having the fridge so close to my bed.

I'm not sure where everyone else was staying, but there was a bed in each of the bathrooms. It really felt like there were people and their belongings everywhere!

One of the first scenes I remember was that we were all sitting in some kind of living room. The dying lady started to break down from her illness, and obviously thought she was going to die. She said "Nice meeting all of you," but a while later seemed to have recovered.

Another part of the dream that I remember was needed to use the toilet. I went into the downstairs bathroom, and there was a bed and lots of stuff in there. I closed the door and locked it, pulled down my jeans and was just sitting down when there was a knock on the door.

"Steve, we need to come in and get something. Is that OK?"

I pulled up my trousers and opened the door and Shaolin came in and started sorting through the items in the bathroom. On my way out I heard her lock the door and put the seat down on the toilet, and I felt pretty annoyed that she had kicked me out of the bathroom and then used it herself. A little while later I brought it up when we were all together again and she said "Well, I was desperate," and I said "So was I."

The last part of the dream that I remember was going somewhere with the dying woman and her children. She wanted to go for a walk, so I'd offered to go with her, and now we were outside somewhere.

There were no buildings around, and the scenery was like something you'd expect to find in a national park. I don't remember there being much vegetation around us, and we were walking along a rocky surface with a pool of water nearby.

We stopped walking and started talking. The lady was telling me about how her daughter had been really ill recently, "ever since we'd been to that rock."

I asked her "What rock?"

"We were out for the day in Cardiff, well actually in Middlesbrough, and we were hiking when we came up to a big flat rock," the lady explained. "After the children had been playing on it for a while, we realised that it was covered in a thick layer of dust. A while later [the girl] got sick, and when she recovered from one thing she got ill again with another. Eventually we realised it was the dust causing it and went back to the rock to investigate.

"When we got back to the rock, we started to move some of the dust out of the way and found all sorts of rubbish underneath. There was a lot of household waste, but also dead mice and cats and things like that."

Just as she'd finished speaking, her little girl toppled over head first into the pool of water in front of her. The mum instinctively grabbed her out, and the little kid just stood there and said innocently, "I didn't even notice."

After that I woke up naturally.

Throughout the dream I remember thinking that I had a lot of questions I wanted to ask the lady about her illness, but I didn't think she'd want to talk about it. She seemed very accepting of her fate. I felt like I'd feel angry if I were in her position, but she seemed calm.

Fingernails

This dream had a lot more to it than I remember, but the alarm clock seemed to erase most of it from my memory when it went off.

Something stressful was happening, like we were trying to do some kind of task and I kept getting distracted and having to quickly do other things before I'd finished my main task. The last time I got distracted was because my finger nails kept scratching my other fingers and I decided I just had to cut them.

I went and got the nail clippers, and when I looked at my hands my fingernails were really in a bad state. They were all funny shapes, and not in a way that would ever be possible. Each nail wasn't really very long, but sharp corners and edges seemed to be growing off of my nails at an angle. The easiest way to explain it is that my nails were the normal length, but the edge of each nail that was furthest from my fingertip was a lot longer the the edge of my nail where it grows out of my finger.

As I started to cut my nails my alarm went off and I woke up.

Headless

The first part of this dream that I remember is being away somewhere with a group of men. I don't remember exactly what we were doing, but I get the feeling we were on holiday, and maybe staying in some kind of caravan.

Something weird was happening, and we had an animal in a bag, and somehow it got out and was attacking us. It wasn't an ordinary animal: it was a weird creature about the size of a dog, but with a strange body shape that was unlike anything I've ever seen before. It didn't have a head, and seemed to mainly be a mass of strong, kicking legs, each ending in a pointed foot.

When the creature got out of the bag it went crazy, kicking anything it could. Eventually we dealt with it although I don't remember how. Either the creature did some serious damage to one member of our group, or we blew it up and he got caught in the explosion. Either way, one of our group ended up losing a hand and parts of both of his legs.

Later on we are back at some place that seems to be a cross between a school, work and a bank. We are all enrolled to go on some kind of survival course in another country with a famous teacher who appears on television, and me and the guy who had his legs blown off have some kind of agreement, like we are sharing a ticket or something. I don't really understand the arrangement now, but I remember working out that if he couldn't go then I couldn't go.

As we are walking into another part of the building, we see the famous guy who's running the course walking in the same general direction. I want to go and ask him some questions but I'm nervous, but then one of my friends convinces me to do it.

I tell him that we're on his course next week, but I've sustained some serious injuries and lost my feet and one of my hands, and ask him if this will stop me from being able to take part in the course. He looks at me like I'm crazy so I change my story and say that actually it was a friend of mine that had his feet blown off.

The teacher says that it would be difficult for someone with those kinds of injuries to do the training, but that he can't discuss any of his other students.

My friends are all queueing up for something now so I join them in the queue. I see my friend with the injuries and tell him to go and talk to the teacher. As I'm waiting in the queue I realised that the teacher didn't believe me when I told him they were my injuries because I clearly haven't lost my legs!

I'm chatting to my friends, and before I know it I've arrived at the front of the queue. It turns out that this a bank and we were in the queue to talk to the cashiers. The lady behind the counter asks me what I want and I don't know what to ask for as I was only in the queue so that I could talk to my friends. I panic and tell her I forgot what I came for, and she is clearly annoyed that I'm holding up the queue.

After a few seconds of confusion I get out my bank card and tell her that I'd like to withdraw £50. This is the last thing I remember before waking up.

Babies in Shopping Bags

I don't remember much of this dream at all, but at the end of the dream I was shopping with a mother of a small baby. She had a shopping bag which had a child seat attached to it, and for some reason was passing the bag to me with the baby still in it.

As I reached out and took the bag, the baby in the child seat started to fidget. After struggling for a few seconds the baby fell out and landed on its head.

I felt guilty and hoped that the mother wouldn't notice.

Technology Fair

Tags: Bob

A lot of this dream is very vague, but I want to improve my recall so I really need to start writing down everything that I can remember.

This dream definitely featured a computer game that had characters from other games. I was really excited about it when I found the character list because a lot of the characters were from Final Fantasy games, especially Final Fantasy VII. The characters that they'd chosen we also quite interesting because in addition to the main characters (Aeris was definitely there) they also chose some obscure boss monsters from various Final Fantasy games.

The main part of the dream that I remember was the end. I was at some kind of technology fair with Bob. It was outside in a field, and there were lots of stalls set up, demoing all sorts of interesting technology.

Me and Bob had decided that there were 2 stalls that we really wanted to see. I don't remember what the first one was, but the second one had something to do with firearms.

We had just looked at the first stall we were really interested in, and were just leaving to head to the firearms stall when all of a sudden there was a power cut and all of the equipment shut down. The crowd all let out a dejected "Aaaawwwww" at the same time, and then everyone started to wander off.

We decided to walk in the general direction of the firearms stall, and as we were walking we heard some people talking to each other, saying "They should have known this was going to happen. They knew the attractions were going to pull more electricity than last year."

As we walked past the firearms stall, all of a sudden the power came back on and everything lit up again. The guy at the stall leaned over and asked if we would like to have a go, and we said "Yes."

The man handed Bob a revolver, and told him to shoot it into a little metal box. The metal box had a very small square opening, and a mass of electrical cables going into the back of it. Inside the opening we could see what looked like a glowing pink gel.

He explained to us that this machine used a lot of electricity and might be what caused the power to go out. He told Bob to fire a bullet into the hole, and the machine would catch the bullet, and we could retrieve it afterwards and it would not be damaged. Bob fired a bullet straight into the hole and the man pulled it out afterwards.

Bob looked at me and asked me if I wanted a go, and I was surprised that he only wanted to fire one shot, but he clearly felt like people were waiting and he didn't want to hold up the queue. He handed the pistol to me and I took aim, and then... I woke up!

Bringing Girls Back

My memory of this dream is hazy and confused.

The first part I remember had something to do with driving. I think I was drunk, at a party, and for some reason I had to move the car. I was too drunk to drive, but as I only had to move it a couple of metres I still did it, but when I was trying to drive the car was going crazy and I couldn't do it.

The second part I remember was coming back in the house. Ray (from my school) was living in a bedroom in our loft, like when he used to live with us at York Avenue.

There was music on, or maybe I had headphones on, and when I turned it off I hear loud noises and everything seemed to be shaking. I asked Yu Lee what it was and she said that Ray had brought a girl back home. I asked where they were doing it and she said in the small room.

A while later I saw Ray, but now he wasn't Ray and instead was a fat, black, bald-headed police officer! I asked about the girl that had just left and he implied that he had had sex with her. I asked where, and he told me he did it in his car. I told him I knew he did it in the little room. I got angry and started to shout at him, and told him he's not to bring girls back and shag them in the spare room.

Floodlights

Semi-Lucid Dream (L1)

I don't remember all of the details of this dream any more, but I think I remembered it pretty clearly after waking. I don't remember exactly what we were doing, but me and Yu Lee were in a city, possibly in another country, and we were looking for something. The dream had a feeling of adventure to it, and I feel like we were trying to find our way inside some kind of building.

The dream took place in the night time and it was dark all around. We were away from the main street, in some kind of alleyway or square, and it was too dark to see and find our way to our destination.

I spotted some floodlights around the square and then noticed a switch that I assumed would turn them on. I flicked the switch and all of a sudden I could see everything clearly, but it wasn't because the floodlights had switched on: it was because the whole city was gently lit. There were thick grey clouds over head, and the city was lit by low levels of sunlight shining through the clouds, as if it was an hour or so before sunset on a cloudy day.

I looked at Yu Lee and said "I think I'm dreaming. If this switch doesn't turn the lights back off I'll know for sure."

I flicked the switch again, and this time nothing happened. I was sure by this point that I was dreaming.

The next thing I did was the same thing I always do in a lucid dream: I tried to fly. This is the first time I ever remember this not working though, and I jumped off the ground a little and landed back. I was talking to Yu Lee but she had stopped replying to me. It was as if my subconscious was unable to control the dream any more since I'd become lucid, but I wasn't in control either.

I felt the dream start to become hazy but wanted to do something in the dream. The only thing I could think of was to take Yu Lee's clothes off, and she let me without responding as she was in a zombie-like state. As I started to pull off her clothes the dream faded even more until I found myself laying in my bed, trying desperately to stay in the dream world but realising that I was now fully awake.

A Hole in the Ground (in Spain)

Tags: Yu Lee

I don't remember all of this dream, and some of the stuff I do remember is a bit vague. I remembered it several times during the day, but each time it wasn't convenient to come a write it down.

I was in Spain with Yu Lee, staying in some kind of hotel, and it was winter. I don't remember much from the beginning of the dream, but I distinctly remember Yu Lee saying something along the lines of "I actually quite like the climate: it's nice not being too cold at this time of year. I could definitely live out here."

If you know Yu Lee well enough you'll know that this would never happen in a million years!

Something weird was going on at the hotel. I'm not quite sure what it was, but it felt like a hostage situation, and I'm not 100% convinced that I was on the good-guys' side. All I know is there were a lot of people everywhere, and it seemed like some kind of disaster, with people huddled together and generally trying to cope.

The one part of the dream in the hotel that I remember is that all of a sudden the floor collapsed in the corner of one of the rooms, and there was a deep hole left behind. I think some people were standing there when it collapsed and fell in, and there was a general feeling of panic.

There was definitely something strange about this hole that appeared, and it seemed to be magical, or evil. For some reason I knew that we could achieve something by standing right at the edge of the pit and looking down, but I didn't have the guts to do it.

I remember telling Yu Lee to look after everyone while I went somewhere, meaning to make sure that other guests don't escape. I don't really remember where I went, but I remember walking around the sunny Spanish streets with the ringleader who was holding the hostages, and it felt a lot like wandering around with my dad.

When I got back to the hotel I was worried that everyone would have gone, and sure enough the place was deserted. This is the last thing I remember before waking.

Ergonomics

I remember two parts of this dream very clearly.

In my dream I'm working in an office building, and in the first part of my dream I remember seeing a new type of "ergonomic" office, where you could raise your office area up and down. I'm not sure whether I saw another ergonomic office in real life or just saw a picture/video of it somewhere, but it consisted of a large building with a wheel of massive steel arms in the middle of the room. Each arm extended outwards slightly and upwards, and from the top of the arm was suspended a work area.

Each work area had a floor, ceiling and two walls - like a box with the front and back missing. Inside each work area was a desk and a chair, and the arms in the centre of the room could be moved so that the work area would go up or down to the desired height.

I have no idea how I did it, and it doesn't make much sense, but somehow I managed to implement this in my office building. All of the other employees were working at normal work stations at ground level, but mine had a giant steel arm behind it that could raise it up and down.

I also, for some reason, had two work stations: a normal one on ground level and my new "ergonomic" one which I chose to suspend several metres in the air. I spent a lot of time adjusting the height of my new office and was constantly moving between work stations, taking objects and furniture from one to the other.

The second part of my dream that I remember was back at my normal work station. I had some kind of inflatable back support and I was showing people how it worked.

For some reason I had it in my rucksack, and I had a remote control attached to it by a wire. When I pressed the button the back support would inflate and poke out of my rucksack.

I specifically remember showing a girl that worked with me how it worked, but she didn't seem to be very interested. I thought it was wonderful for some reason and was frustrated by her lack of interest.

Dijon Chicken

In my dream, I had invited Mum, Richard, Bob and Steph over for dinner after work on Friday. It was summer, and we were going to sit outside in the sun and have a few drinks and something to eat. For dinner I'd planned to make chicken in a Dijon mustard sauce, fried tomatoes and salad.

I'd spoken to mum on the phone that day, and then she was the first to arrive. I was dishing out the food but Mum was the only one who'd turned up at that point. Mum said Richard would be there soon but I hadn't heard anything from Bob and Steph, so I sent Bob a text message saying "Where are you?"

A little while later we managed to get hold of Richard on the phone and he seemed to be a bit confused and for some reason thought that we were due to be meeting up the next day. All of a sudden Mum realised the problem and said "It's only Thursday today!" It turned out that I had lost track of the day and thought it was Friday already, and because I was on the phone to Mum earlier she thought it was Friday too.

Richard told me that he would be over soon, and I texted Bob and said "Don't worry, I got the day wrong. See you tomorrow."

A while later Richard still hadn't turned up and I was getting stressed because the food was already dished up and going cold. Me and Mum were trying to work out the best way to heat it all up again as it had loads of salad on the plates, so I couldn't just put the whole thing in the microwave. We decided it would be best to take the fried tomato and chicken off of the plate, microwave it, and transfer it back onto the plate.

As we started to move things off of the plates Richard turned up. I told him what we were doing and he said "I would just leave the chicken cold if I were you." He told me that Dijon chicken is normally served cold as it is mayonnaise-based, but I told him that this was a special recipe and was different. I asked him to taste it so he got a spoon and tasted a little bit of the chicken. He said "it's fine," and I put the plates of food back on the table as they were.
