House Viewing on Histon Road

Tags: Yu Lee

For some reason me and Yu Lee have gone to look at a house (to buy). I'm not sure why, because in my dream, just as in real life, we have only lived here for about 6 months.

We arrive at the house around 6:00pm by car and knock on the door. The man of the house opens the door and invites us in, and then he tells us that they are just dishing up dinner, and that he needs to dish up for everyone and then he will be right with us. We hang out in the living room for a while, and notice that they have at least three children living there, and also seem to have both sets of grandparents living there too.

After a short wait, the man of the house comes back and starts to show us around. We look around the living room and the kitchen, and everything seems to be pretty nice, although we quietly comment to each other that it's not as nice as our house.

Next we move through to a weird room which is attached to the living room (without a door) and seems to take up about half of the bottom floor. It's as wide as a regular room, but quite a bit longer, and there are no windows. They have no real furniture in the room although there seem to be some built in cupboards and a few boxes. I comment to the man that it seems a shame to use such a big space just for storage and he seems to be a little bit offended by my comment. He tells me that he does use it, and points to the corner of the room where I notice a small coffee table and a large wall mounted television.

At some point while we are in this room he makes a comment about how it is "connected to the next flat", and I assume he meant house instead of flat.

He tells us he has to go and do something, and asks if we can wait for a few minutes, so we tell him that's fine. He disappears for a while and we start to talk about the house. We both agree that it's not as good as our house, but that the location is really good. In my dream (as in another dream I had) Histon Road seems to be half way between our house and the city centre, which in real life is not true.

After waiting for a while the man comes back, and he seems to be busy with something. I ask him if I can use the toilet and he says that's fine, and directs us up stairs. We both go and follow his instructions, and end up in one of the children's bedrooms which has a toilet and a basin in it!

Yu Lee goes to the toilet first, and then I go. This is a little bit nasty and a bit weird: I take a dump with Yu Lee still in the room, and afterwards, I wipe and wipe and just can't get myself completely clean. After at least half a roll of toilet roll I realise I won't ever get myself clean and am starting to get sore, so I flush and give up.

Back down stairs the man of the house is in the garden so we go outside, and he seems to be fixing something made out of wood. When we get closer it seems to be a bee-hive, although there are no bees. He tells us he will be with us shortly.

Back inside the house we continue to wait for him. The grandparents and some of the children are setting up some kind of board game that involves singing, and we watch them. They ask us if we want to play but we tell them we have to go soon.

We look at our watches and it is 10:00pm and we realise we've been there for four hours! We say that this is the most disorganised house viewing ever and decide to give up. We call the man of the house by playing a tune on an instrument (I think he told us to do that earlier but I don't know for sure) and he comes down the stairs, still looking like he's franticly trying to finish something. We tell him we have to go and he doesn't even ask about finishing the tour and lets us out.

Outside we comment on how weird that was and look at the house from the outside. I realise that it really is a kind of flat, and say so to Yu Lee. She says that she isn't interested in a flat and I tell her that it is not an ordinary flat.

From the outside we can see that the building is made of brown concrete in a brutalist architectural style. The flat itself has no other flats above it, but is connected to a small building on the left, and to a large block of flats to the right. Scanning further along I can see that the block of flats is attached to a multi-storey carpark and that the two buildings are integrated together. The cars can somehow drive out onto the roof of the house we just looked at and there are parking spaces on the roof.

I say to Yu Lee that it's not really like a proper block of flats, because the only thing that the building shares is the parking spaces on the roof.

Standing outside in the dark, Histon Road doesn't seem like a nice place to be, and it has a feeling of danger about it. We agree that we should go, and Yu Lee comments that she thinks maybe the man of the house was in some kind of trouble, possibly drugs related. We get in the car and Yu Lee pulls away.

When in the car, we need to turn around so we look for a good spot. We spot a grassy track and decide that is as good a place as any, and Yu Lee drives into it and start to turn the car around. The neighbourhood seems pretty sinister and I can tell that Yu Lee is in a rush, and as she starts to the turn the car around she puts her foot on the gas a little too vigorously and the car spins. She slams on the break and we come to a halt.

At this point there is something weird going on with a tent. I think maybe it fell out of the car, although I don't remember exactly how it got there. All I remember thinking is that our tent was outside the car, and it was all dirty where the car had skidded over it. I was thinking to myself that I couldn't be bothered to sort it out and I just wanted to get out of there, and when Yu Lee drove off and left it there I was relieved. This is the last part of the dream that I remember.

An interesting thing about this dream is that this version of Histon Road seems very similar to another dream that I had (Friday Afternoon at Work) where I decided to walk home through Histon Road, and the area seemed to be dodgey. I have no idea why Histon Road is a bad area in my dreams, or why it is half way between town and my house, because in reality I rarely ever even go to Histon Road.

Bee Spider

Tags: Yu Lee

Me and Yu Lee are doing some kind of decorating work in the porch. Yu Lee is filling with polyfiller, and I am painting (at the same time).

All of a sudden Yu Lee sees a spider running along the surface that we are filling. She sticks out her hand and lets it climb onto her finger, and I remember thinking that it was very brave of her!

I don't remember getting there, but the next thing I know we are in the front room, and Yu Lee has the spider on her hand. It is quite fat and with short, thick legs. I look at it a little bit closer and it looks exactly like a bee, but has 8 legs like a spider and no wings.

All of a sudden Yu Lee drops it and shrieks "It bit me!"

I ask if it hurt and she said that it was just a little pinch. I get a piece of card and try to pick it up but it keeps crawling off, and Yu Lee keeps on nearly standing on it which annoys me.

Next she sits on her chair at her desk, and again nearly puts her foot on it. I grab her leg and pull it to move her out of the way and she falls over with the chair on top of her, and is laying face down and not moving. I ask if she's alright, but she doesn't reply, so I crawl over towards her. When I get there she is smiling and looks fine, and I feel relieved.

Wedding Party

Tags: Dad Yu Lee

I dreamt something to do with my wedding.

I don't remember all of the details, but we were having some kind of party with all of the wedding guests, but it wasn't the actual wedding, in fact I think it was some kind of rehearsal.

At one point, I was trying to do something with Yu Lee's jewellery, and I left a ring and some earrings in a small glass on a table outside. The next thing I knew it was the next day and it had rained over night, and the glass with the jewellery now had a couple of centimetres of water in the bottom.

The other thing I remember is trying to decide on a menu. We had planned for a dish to be served, but my dad managed to convince me to swap it for something with cubes of lamb.

Birthday Dancing

Tags: Yu Lee

I only remember this dream very vaguely.

I dreamt that me and Yu Lee went out in the evening to celebrate her birthday. All I remember is eating and having a couple of drinks, and then being so exhausted that I came home and went to bed early. I was so tired that I barely even remembered coming home.

The next day me and Yu Lee were talking, and she was telling me that after I left, everyone realised it was her birthday and kept asking to "dance with the birthday girl." I didn't like the fact that she was dancing with random people and felt jealous.

After a while, I suddenly realised that she was lying to me, and that we'd come home together. I just vaguely remembered arriving at home together, so I told her and she started laughing at me because I believed her that she'd stayed there on her own and danced with people.

I also remember an image from the dream of people dancing to Stairway to Heaven. I remember the dancers were some kind of travellers, and there was a black child with them but the rest of them were white. The music was very clear.

Offers in the Supermarket

Tags: Yu Lee

I don't remember much about this dream.

Me and Yu Lee are in a supermarket that we don't normally go to. When we walk in there are two girls that work there, and each of them tells us about a special offer. The first one has some scented tissues, and I don't remember the other one.

After a while, we decide to take advantage of the second offer (the one that I don't remember). After we've loaded up our trolley and are ready to leave, we have to walk through the rest of the store to get to the checkouts. As we walk past the first girl she asks us if we have reconsidered her boxes of scented tissues.

"No we don't need scented toilet paper thanks," I say to her.

As I said this she had a distinctly 'not impressed' look on her face, as if she was thinking "It's not toilet paper, it's a box of tissues!"

The Silver Lamppost

Semi-Lucid Dream (L1)

"Prize Meetings"

I think I'm at work, and they've launched a new scheme where you get selected to come to some kind of meeting, and when everyone's there, you have some kind of points allocated to you that you can spend on prizes. I think there are a selection of prizes, and the group has to decide who gets what prize.

I go to the first one of these meetings, and it's in a large room like a school hall with lots of round tables in it. I don't really remember the meeting, but the prizes were underwhelming and I felt it was a waste of time.

Later I'm summoned to another one of these meetings, and I go there again. Only a couple of people are there, and we have to wait for the rest of the group before we can start.

While we're waiting, one member of the group starts to talk about dreams, and then he pulls out his dream journal and starts reading from it. I think this is a bit of a coincidence because I have written one of my dreams down on an old receipt. I look at my dream, and think that I will mention it when this guy stops talking.

As I'm reading my dream off of the little scrap of paper, I suddenly realise that one of the dream characters, who was previously unknown to me, is in fact the guy in our group who is talking about his dream.

After a few minutes I realise that this guy just loves the sound of his own voice and is probably not going to stop any time soon. I realise that the whole meeting is a waste of time, and that it could be ages before the rest of the group arrives, so I get up and walk away.

Argument on a Train

The next thing I remember is being with Yu Lee, and we are arguing about something. It gets quite heated and one of us ends up leaving. My recollection of the start of the argument is vague, but I know Yu Lee ends up getting on a train for some reason.

Later, I'm at the train station, and Yu Lee's train pulls up. I get on the train and sit down opposite her and we continue our argument from earlier. As before, neither of us is willing to back down, so I get up and walk off of the train.

When I'm outside, I can see that this must be the last stop on the line because you can walk round one end of the train. I walk around it, and as I get to the other side I see Yu Lee just outside the door. She is looking around to find me, but hasn't seen me and goes back inside.

I realise that she wants to talk, and also realise that the train is probably going to pull away soon, so I run to the door and try to get her attention. She sees me as the doors close, and I try to signal to her to press the button inside to open the door so that she can get off. She doesn't understand what to do, and is desperately trying to find the button. I can see that she's starting to panic now and is crying.

I'm thinking of how I can get her to understand how to open the door, and suddenly I realise that there is a button on the outside too, so I press it and the door opens. Yu Lee is so relieved and her tears immediately turn into a big smile as she steps off of the train. I give her a big hug and she is relieved that the train didn't pull out of the station.

Blurry Sky and Silver Lamppost

The next thing I remember is being back home. It's a nice sunny day, so I decide to open the patio doors and go outside into the garden.

The moment that I step outside I realise that the sky looks weird, like it is all blurry. I look up and think to myself, "The only thing that would make the sky blurry like this would be a big cloud in front of the sun, and that type cloud isn't here." (This is a weird bit of dream logic!) "The only other thing that could cause this would be a trail of vapour, like the trail left behind from a meteorite."

I look around and then I see the meteorite trail from the top of the sky to the horizon. I immediately feel the ground shake as it hits the ground.

This time I think to myself, "What are the chances of that? I think of a meteorite, and then I see the trail. I must be dreaming!"

At that moment I realise that I am in a dream, and leap into the air. I rise upwards and slightly backwards, watching as the ground disappears beneath me and most of my vision is filled with the clear blue sky (which is no longer blurry).

As I rise up I see a path with a large silver lamppost on either side of it, with several more of these lampposts going off into the distance in either direction. I stare at the lamppost as there is nothing else to look at: the sky is clear blue without a cloud in it. I think that I must look at something to stabilise the dream, and the lamppost is the only option.

I must be in the air for a second, drifting slowly backwards, when I decide I need to move towards the lamppost. I start to do breaststroke to try and pull myself towards it, and it works to some extent although I'm only moving very slowly.

I can see the lamppost in perfect detail. It's made of brushed chrome, and on the top of it, instead of a light, is a brushed chrome sphere. It doesn't even occur to me that the lamppost looks weird as the only thought in my mind is to not let the dream fade away.

Unfortunately, after just a couple of seconds, my dream does fade away. The dream world fades, and my eyes open, and now I am in my bedroom. I'm staring at the curtain pole, which is brushed chrome with a large finial on the end of it! I guess I was dreaming with my eyes open, and my mind integrated the curtain pole into my dream as the lamppost.

Wedding

Tags: Yu Lee

I dreamt that it was mine and Yu Lee's wedding day. I don't remember all of the details of the dream, but I remember a vague outline of the plot.

The main thing that I remember is that the whole thing was a bit of a mess! While we were on our way to the ceremony, we realised that we hadn't even finished giving all of the specifications to the venue or the registry office. There were a list of things that the registry office told us we need decide on, like the different options for readings and having our own vows, and even the music.

We had a lot of guests at the wedding, unlike what we are planning in real life. There must have been at least 200 people there, and we were outside. We were having some kind of reception first, and then the ceremony was due to start.

When it was time for the ceremony, we asked one of the guests to gather everyone round the spot where the ceremony would take place. As we were standing there waiting we went over the list of all of the things that we hadn't decided on yet, like the music, and we couldn't work out what they were going to do. It felt like the whole thing wasn't ready.

Our guests were taking ages to come over, and for some reason we didn't want to move from the spot because we were in position. I started waving frantically at one of the guests to try and draw attention to the fact that we were waiting, and eventually everyone started to slowly gather round.

I don't remember what happened next, but I remember thinking the whole thing was a farce!

The Policeman's Ball

Tags: Bob Yu Lee

Me, Bob and Yu Lee are staying at a hotel somewhere. It's the evening, and I suggest we should go out and find somewhere that we can have a drink, so we leave the hotel and walk along the main road, but there don't seem to be any pubs around.

We walk past a police station, and one of the others points at it and says "We can go to the Policeman's Ball!"

We walk up to the police station, and no one seems to be around but the doors are open. We go inside and walk down the corridor. We can hear the music inside and I'm sure the party is just around the corner. I ask Bob "Are we allowed to just walk in here and join the party?" and he says that we aren't supposed to be here because we don't work here.

I become nervous and tell the others we should leave. As we are walking out of the police station, someone sees us and approaches us, so we pretend to be prisoners that have just been released. The person we are talking to is obviously an off-duty policeman, but we somehow convince him that we are just prisoners on our way out of the station and he lets us go.

When we're back outside we decide to head back to the hotel. I tell the others that I'm hungry and they say they will cook some "nice mac 'n' cheese" when we get home. I tell them that I'm not eating that!

The Fair

Tags: Yu Lee

We are at a fair. It's the type of thing in a large marquee with lots of stalls and rides inside it. I'm with Yu Lee, and possibly some other people.

We walk up to a stall that has a series of small food stalls, with each one being from different countries. I remember that the English one was really boring, being something like ham sandwiches, but some of the other stalls were a bit better. When I'd just woken up I could remember the different foods in detail but the details have already faded.

Throughout the marquee are a series of rides that look like small roller coasters, but that are all on ground level. They have carts that go round a track, but the tracks are flat against the ground.

We walk up to another stand and ask what it is, and they say some funny name. I ask what that is and they say it is one of the rides, and we are thinking of going on it, but when we ask what it's like it doesn't sound very fun so we change our mind. The lady behind the counter said that it basically moves round the track and has lot of stops and starts and bits that spin you round.

The next lot of people get on the ride and we decide to watch it for a while, and are instantly glad that we didn't get on it. It literally seems to have been designed to be as unpleasant as possible! The cart moves back and forth, spinning and tilting and changing direction suddenly causing the people inside to constantly be rocking back and forwards.

The next thing I notice is that people are being sick on the ride. Each time it happens it is when the cart gets to a sharp bend in the track, and one of the people leans over the edge and pukes on the floor. The vomit splats (that look like lumpy brown porridge) are quickly cleaned up by a woman that runs around the outside of the track with paper towels and a bucket. I remember thinking that the ride is right next to the food stalls, so everyone has just eaten, and that the organisers were clearly prepared for people to be sick.

Finally I notice another woman who is also cleaning up the sick. She looks around 40 years old, has short hair, and is wearing some kind of black robe. The sleeve and leg holes of the robe are really big, and it looks like something a monk or a sorcerer would wear out of a fantasy game. She is also carrying blue paper towels to clean up the vomit.

Mum's Neighbours

This dream has some pretty vague bits in it, and I think there was a fair bit of dream logic going on here.

We are at our house, and my mum and step-dad are here. I think there were a load of other people here too, because me and Yu Lee had just gotten married, but the wedding wasn't actually in the dream. The point where my recollection of the dream starts is just after the wedding.

I'm talking to Mum, and she tells me that she has to dash off because they have to move out of their house in a couple of days. She explains that their neighbour has decided to sell it, so they have to move out. It's not clear in the dream whether her neighbour actually owns the house and is renting to them, or if something else is happening. This is the dream logic I was talking about.

I'm talking very passionately to Mum, saying she should do this and that so that she doesn't have to move. I'm pretty sure I was telling her to call them up and make threats to trash the place. "Tell him if he still wants a house to sell he needs to give you more time."

My mum goes off and I'm left all alone in the house (it seems Yu Lee went somewhere too). The house is a totally different house to any house I remember from real life, but looking out the back it has the same garden as my childhood home in Slough. I can see the large brick-built workshop at the bottom of the garden, and the double doors are right open. You can see all of our stuff inside (which looks like stuff you would normally have in the house) just sitting there in the middle of the workshop.

I walk outside to go and lock up, and think to myself that it was really stupid to leave all of that stuff there with the doors wide open. As I arrive at the bottom of the garden I see my wallet laying on the floor. I remember the image of my wallet very vividly: the clasp that holds it shut was open, but the wallet was still closed, and there was a streak of sand on it and it looked very dirty. It was laying on the middle step leading down from the path to the sunken area of the garden where the workshop was.

When I see my wallet, my first instinct is to put my hand in my pocket and feel for my keys and phone, but they are not in my trousers either. I start locking up and gather my phone, keys etc. and put them in my pocket.

Just as I finish locking up I notice some people coming down the path. They are a couple, and I was really focussing on the man who was about my mum's age and dressed in trousers and a thin sweater with a shirt underneath, and looked a little bit posh. When he opened his mouth to talk to me he sounded extremely pompous and not very likeable, speaking a bit like Douglas Reynholm from the IT Crowd. I realised that he was my mum's neighbour, and although we'd never met before he acted a lot like he knew me.

I was half talking to him and half finishing locking up, but the bit that caught my attention was when he started talking about the house sale.

"I'm selling one of my houses, Steve. It's been a really quick sale, and we haven't spent any money to sell it. Have you ever sold a house quickly with no money, Steve?"

He seemed to be boasting about it and I thought he seemed like an arrogant prick.

They left, and I was on my own again, so I walked back up the side of the house and in through the front door, and then I realised he was in my house. Yu Lee was also in the house now (maybe she was there all along). My mum's neighbour was looking at the plastering around the front door.

"Tell me about this plastering Steve. It looks good, but I know it wasn't done by a professional plasterer."

I told him that my dad did it, and it was very thermally efficient. He asked me how the house was heated and I told him that the radiator was in the front room and pointed towards it.

At that point Yu Lee started to explain the plastering. "When he plastered it, he opened up the plaster and poured in a load of hot potatoes at the end. That's why it keeps the heat in so well."

My mum's neighbour seemed satisfied by this explanation and actually seemed quite impressed. He left through the front door and I woke up.
