Italian Lady

Tags: Carlos Yu Lee

I remember a lot of vague fragments of this dream.

  • Yu Lee and I weren't living together, but apart from that our situation was still the same.
  • I'm sure I spoke to Yu Lee at some point in the dream, either in person or on the phone.
  • I remember getting a phone call from Carlos and talking to him for a while, and then the sound quality got really bad and I had to hang up.
  • I remember driving to a car park. I think someone was giving me directions, and I ended up parking in Homebase's car park which was completely empty because it was the evening.
  • I remember going into work (WorldPay?) and someone said "Someone's been drinking haven't they?" I felt a bit offended because I'd only had half a bottle of beer and was still in a fit state to drive.

The part of my dream that I remember most clearly was (as usual) at the end of my dream. I was living in a house share with 2 or 3 other people, and one of them was an Italian lady who was teaching me Italian. She wasn't anybody I knew from real life, but the way she acted was similar to my Italian teacher, although she looked nothing like her and was a bit overweight.

It was evening, and I'd just arrived back at home. The Italian lady was in the corner of the hallway and had just hung up the telephone. I had a question so I approached her and tried to explain it in Italian, but I didn't know all of the words. I tried to guess how to say whatever it was by adapting the Spanish words to Italian pronunciation (a trick that works pretty well in reality!) but I'd obviously not got it quite right, and she stopped me half way through speaking to correct me.

Before she'd finished correcting me she stopped mid-sentence, came in close to me and said in a half-whisper "Whatever happens between you and me is our secret. You don't have to worry that I'll tell anyone."

As she said it a series of images flashed through my mind of what she was implying, and then I thought of Yu Lee and thought that it was definitely not something I wanted to pursue.

Rome

Tags: Carlos

In my dream I am still working at WorldPay, and for some reason the whole team has gone to Rome. I don't remember the first part of the dream very clearly, but we go to some kind of bar / restaurant.

I'm sitting at a table and Carlos is sitting next to me. I remember talking to him in Spanish whenever we were on our own and reverting back to English whenever other people are around. I don't remember everything that we talked about but I do remember talking to him about wanting to have children.

We're sitting there and drinking, and the conversation changes to the topic of drunk people. The others are saying that there is a local tradition that when someone is sick from drinking too much, they make them drink the vomit! I tell them to change the subject because it is disgusting and making me feel sick, but they carry on talking about it so I decide to go for a walk.

The streets are in really bad condition and almost look like a war zone. There are lots of areas where the pavement is missing and there are large potholes and sections with boards covering large holes in the ground. There are a lot of people around and I'm constantly having to push through the crowd.

I turn a few corners and bump into some work people. There are two sets of two or three people that have just bumped into each other, and I have met them at the same time. I stop to talk to them, and they are talking about going for a drink somewhere, but I realise that the two groups are talking to each other and not really talking to me so I move on.

I walk around for quite a while and feel slightly nervous about being on my own in a foreign country. Eventually I end up back at the restaurant where we started and sit down again next to Carlos.

After I've been sitting there for just a couple of minutes they tell me that they've eaten and are going now. I remember saying to Carlos that I thought this was a waste of time coming here for lunch and the I was happy wherever we were before.

Jagdeep's Travels

Tags: Carlos Jagdeep

Jagdeep is someone I knew from school, who has a disability and has also suffered with some quite serious illnesses. In my dream I'm pretty sure he had something terminal, and was determined to make the most of the rest of his life.

There are four of us in a car: Jagdeep, Carlos, one other person and me. I'm pretty sure I knew who the other person was when I woke up but it's long gone now.

We are driving somewhere and talking, and the first topic of conversation is Carlos' accent. Someone is asking why his Spanish accent is stronger or weaker depending on what he is talking about, and I give some kind of explanation as Carlos is driving and trying to concentrate. I ask Carlos if he agrees and he does.

A while later Jagdeep is telling us about his travels. In my dream he lives in the United States, but is doing a trip around the UK at the moment. He's been to all sorts of places and hasn't worked for a while (due to his terminal illness) and he is explaining how he got the funding for it.

We arrive at a multi storey carpark and stop the car, and everyone gets out. I can't remember why, but Jagdeep walks off somewhere and we do whatever it is we are doing. After a while we get back in the car to leave.

"Is he coming back?" someone asks, and I say I don't know. Jagdeep had just been talking about how this part of his trip was over, and it wasn't 100% obvious if he was coming back.

We go to drive out of the carpark and then we see him so we stop and let him in.

"Where are you going next then Jagdeep?" I ask him.

"I'm going to travel around the UK for another week and then I'm off to East Asia."

Music Quiz, Leaving WorldPay, Tapas

I remember several fragments of this dream with varying degrees of clarity.

The vaguest memory is from the earliest part of the dream. I remember we had builders in doing work in the garden, and something about large metal boxes / very small sheds that the previous people had left behind. They seemed to slot together and half fill the side passage.

The next part of the dream was in some kind of venue. We were at an event that seemed like a stand-up comedy show, except the guy doing it wasn't a comedian, but some guy giving a presentation that seems to have quiz elements to it.

After we'd been at the 'show' for quite a while, the guy on the stage asks a question "In music, what is a <something>?" I instinctively think it's when you lower the pitch by a tone, and then he plays some music with it in as an example and I'm sure that I was right. Someone in the audience puts up their hand and says what I was thinking and they were right.

I turn to the others in my group and say that I want to leave early to avoid the rush of people leaving, and they are all asleep. They wake up and we discuss it, and they say they want to wait until the end, even though they were all sleeping. At that moment the show finishes and everyone gets up, and I'm annoyed that no one listened to me.

The final part of my dream was the clearest, especially when I'd just woken up.

I'm at WorldPay, and it's my final week there. I'm talking to a girl (I think the Bolivian girl) about wiki pages. She says

"Who will write the wiki pages when you're gone?"

I said that I wrote the wiki page, and I wrote the tool that the page is about. I said all of the software is written by half of the test team, and the other devs just do bug fixes.

We are walking outside now because it's the end of the day, and it is sunny outside. I realise that I've worked a full day by accident, when I'm only supposed to be working half days. This means that instead of having 4 half days left I only have 3.

I'm talking to Carlos as we walk, and I tell him about an interesting tapa that I've had in a restaurant (in England). It was half of a fried pear with crispy bacon on top. He says

"I've never heard of that before, it must be from somewhere in AndalucĂa."

Picking Stuff Up from WorldPay

Tags: Carlos

I had a dream about going back to WorldPay to pick something up, and having to wait in reception for Carlos to come and get me.

Horse Tea

Tags: Carlos Dad

The main thing I remember about my dream was being at work and talking to Carlos. We were talking in Spanish, and he was asking whether my tea was good or not. I told him that it wasn't very nice and that it didn't have a lot of flavour, because it probably came from an old horse! Then my dad called and I went to pick it up, and the dream ended and my alarm was going off.

Calling Carlos

Tags: Carlos

I don't remember much about my dream but I remember talking in Spanish, and trying to call one of my Spanish friends, but instead accidentally calling Carlos from my work.

Stomach Bug

Tags: Carlos

I dreamt that we went somewhere with work, and we were staying the night. We all got paired up and had to share a room, and I was sharing with Carlos. He wasn't feeling well and spent the evening outside. At one point I went to the toilets and someone had just been sick, and when they rinsed their mouth out water sprayed from their mouth onto me. More and more people were getting sick and Carlos was too. I was scared of being ill too.

American Pianos

Tags: Atta Carlos

I am with my work people, going to some kind of team lunch in a restaurant. As we walk there I am having a conversation with Carlos in Spanish, but for some reason Atta keeps butting in in English. He seems to be able to understand what we are talking about as he keeps saying things that are relevant to the conversation, but I ignore him and continue the conversation with Carlos in Spanish.

The main thing I remember talking about is a piano at Carlos' house. He tells me that it is an American piano, and I ask him if he plays it or not. He says that he doesn't as it is too complicated and I ask him whether it is the keyboard that he finds complicated and he says "no". I tell him that American pianos can be more complicated because they are often electric and he says that this one is not electric. I say that they tend to be more complicated than normal pianos with lots of extra "knobs and buttons", even the wooden ones. The conversation doesn't make a lot of sense really!

When we arrive at the restaurant there is a room with a drinks fridge and everyone is looking in it to choose their drinks. I look through it and there is some lemon liquor that looks out of place. For some reason I say that I can't choose my drink until we know where we are sitting.

I wait for everyone else to stop looking at the fridge and then we all go to find a table to sit at. As soon as we sit down I say "I need a drink" and then I get back up and squeeze past everyone to go back to the drinks fridge again to choose a drink!

This is the last thing I remember before waking up.

SVG Graphics

I only really remember the very last scene of this dream, and even that is a little vague.

We are at work. We are having problems with a tool that we use (although I don't think the tool even exists in real life) and I am helping people with the problem. It seems that the tool is no longer updated and there is an incompatibility with the latest version of Ubuntu.

There are 2 version of this tool: one version is a program that runs on Ubuntu, and the other is a web based tool. As a workaround I suggest using the web based version.

I don't remember who I was helping initially, or if I was just getting it working on my PC, but once I am done I go to see Carlos and help him with his computer. Right when I'm at the last step the new DBA ends up watching me so that he can fix his computer too.

The very last problem that I have on Carlos' PC is something that is not working right on the web version. I explain that it is something to do with the way that his browser handles SVGs, and the DBA asks what the point is in SVGs anyway, and why you wouldn't just use a normal image. I ask if he wants a basic demonstration of SVG and at that moment Chris Beard hears me and says something like "Oooo I want to see what this is all about too." He comes over so now there is quite a crowd around the desk.

I think about showing them my sleep chart (the chart on this website) as that is implemented using SVG, but I decide that I don't really fancy explaining my sleep pattern to this particular group of people, so I load up the online tool that we were trying to use. I click on 'view source' and find the bit with the source for the SVG, but it is very strange and confusing and doesn't look like it should. I tell them that this is a bad example, and that I will show them my site instead as it is a lot cleaner.

I go to my site, and am just about to click through to my sleep chart when I wake up to the alarm.

Throughout the dream I have a vague recollection that nothing on the computer was working properly. Every time I would try something it would not seem to work and it would take me several attempts to get it right.
