Yesterday my sleeping pattern was a bit of a mess! I had a nap early in the day because I didn't feel too well, and then I tried to nap at my normal time and failed. I felt sleepy at about 7:30pm and felt that I could have napped then, and also at about 9:00. In the end I held off of going to bed until 10:30.

By the time I went to bed I was knackered and fell asleep very quickly. I set my alarm for 4:30am as I didn't want to sleep too much so that I could nap properly the next day.

When my alarm went off this morning I struggled to turn it off, and somehow managed to turn it from vibrate to sound in the confusion, which meant it started beeping. I had woken from a dream about helping people at work, and in the confusion of turning off the alarm I forgot a lot of my dream.

I only really remember the very last scene of this dream, and even that is a little vague.

We are at work. We are having problems with a tool that we use (although I don't think the tool even exists in real life) and I am helping people with the problem. It seems that the tool is no longer updated and there is an incompatibility with the latest version of Ubuntu.

There are 2 version of this tool: one version is a program that runs on Ubuntu, and the other is a web based tool. As a workaround I suggest using the web based version.

I don't remember who I was helping initially, or if I was just getting it working on my PC, but once I am done I go to see Carlos and help him with his computer. Right when I'm at the last step the new DBA ends up watching me so that he can fix his computer too.

The very last problem that I have on Carlos' PC is something that is not working right on the web version. I explain that it is something to do with the way that his browser handles SVGs, and the DBA asks what the point is in SVGs anyway, and why you wouldn't just use a normal image. I ask if he wants a basic demonstration of SVG and at that moment Chris Beard hears me and says something like "Oooo I want to see what this is all about too." He comes over so now there is quite a crowd around the desk.

I think about showing them my sleep chart (the chart on this website) as that is implemented using SVG, but I decide that I don't really fancy explaining my sleep pattern to this particular group of people, so I load up the online tool that we were trying to use. I click on 'view source' and find the bit with the source for the SVG, but it is very strange and confusing and doesn't look like it should. I tell them that this is a bad example, and that I will show them my site instead as it is a lot cleaner.

I go to my site, and am just about to click through to my sleep chart when I wake up to the alarm.

Throughout the dream I have a vague recollection that nothing on the computer was working properly. Every time I would try something it would not seem to work and it would take me several attempts to get it right.

I was tired today! After messing up my naps yesterday and still getting up early today, by the time midday came around I was more than ready to nap.

I went to bed at around 12:20 and fell asleep within a few minutes. I woke up at 1:30am but I couldn't be bothered to get up yet so I laid in bed for a while until I fell back to sleep, and then finally woke up at 2:15. I laid in bed after recording this sleep for another 15 minutes (without sleeping any more) and got out of bed at 2:30.

I feel like I have slept a long time! Maybe I shouldn't have gone back to sleep once I woke up. Hopefully my pattern is back in full swing again now!

I didn't sleep at all

Last night we initially went to bed just after 10:30pm, but we laid in bed talking for a while before I started the timer.

My cold symptoms are much worse when I'm laying down as I keep coughing and end up with some horrible thick mucus that is hard to swallow! I was beginning to think that I would be laying awake for a long time so I decided to record the time that I was laying awake separately, but in the end I was only laying there for 20 minutes.

In the end after 20 minutes (which I marked did not sleep) I fell asleep. I had set my alarm to 4:30am, but I ended up waking up just after 3:00am! This is probably too early to get up but I think it would have taken me a long time to get back to sleep even if I had tried.

I'm feeling pretty grotty now, and I'm not sure whether to go in to work today or not. I think I probably woke up earlier than usual due to my sore throat.
