(6:16 hours)
Yesterday I went out longboarding with my friend Pete and his son Kyle (and Yu Lee). We skated up the busway and then headed back towards home.
I was just coming down the last section of the busway, where the entrance to the science park is, where the road turns from tarmac to concrete paving slabs. The ridges between the slabs make your skateboard lose speed, so you have to do it relatively fast, and when I got onto the paved bit I realised I didn't have quite enough speed so I gave my board one last hard push.
There were a couple of cyclists coming round the corner, so I leaned on my board to weave around them, and a combination of coming off of a hard push on crappy ground and leaning too hard meant that I lost my balance. The board flew out from underneath me and I flew into the air and landed face first on the concrete. I was only going about 5 miles per hour, but the impact on the side of my face felt pretty solid.
I sat up and the cyclists asked if I was ok, and I told them not to worry because my friend would be there any second. As I said that I felt the blood start to pour out of my face and down my cheek.
When Pete got there he helped me take my shirt off and hold it against my face, and I had to sit down a few times on the walk home to stop from passing out.
When we got home we decided I needed to go to A&E and in the end I got 3 stitches in my eyebrow. The nurse said the flesh has split all the way to the bone!
I felt tired last night so I went to bed early, but when I got to bed I couldn't sleep for over an hour. I reset my sleep time a couple of times and remember looking at the clock and it saying 12:30am.
Yu Lee came to bed just after midnight and I was still awake then.
I woke up at about 5:45am, and thought "should I get up now?" As usual I fell back to sleep and woke up to the alarm at 6:30am.
